"Also Touch" Scholarship Program
A Collaboration Between True Foundation Christian Center (Amlan, Philippines) and the Powery Family
About the Scholarship
Filipino youth are joyful young men and women with bright futures. The youth active at True Foundation Christian Fellowship in Amlan, Negros Oriental, are no exception. They are provided with the ability to obtain elementary and secondary education at great local schools. However, they are often unable to attend college due to lack of finances. This prevents them from accessing their maximum potential and helping their families in the fullest way possible.
The “Also Touch” Scholarship Program (ATSP), sponsored by the Powery family of San Jose, California, USA, is an attempt to bridge the gap for the youth by providing scholarships to attend exceptional local universities. The Powery family hopes that a college education, coupled with consistent spiritual development and community service, will better equip the youth to be leaders in the church and in the larger community.
“Also Touch” is a term coined by Christiana Powery (1995-2005), the youngest member of the Powery family who passed away from complications of Juvenile Dermatomyositis (JDMS) in 2005. She was an active follower of Jesus Christ who wrote in her journal often during her last few months in the hospital. She would pray for other family members and friends, even if she wasn’t healthy. The last words in her journal, in the midst of a prayer, were “Also touch...,” showing that until the very end she was thinking of others. It is the Powery family’s hope that Christiana’s desire to “touch” everyone would reach the peaceful and loving community of Amlan, Negros Oriental.

Each year, the ATSP will cover full-tuition at Negros Oriental State University in Dumaguete City for one (1) qualified high school graduate who is an active member at TFCC. The scholarship will be given to no more than one (1) student per year, and will not exceed four (4) students of different year levels at any given time. The scholarship will total up to Php37,500 per year, will last four (4) years for that student, and will cover the following:
- Tuition costs (up to Php10,000/semester)

- Monthly stipend for transportation costs (Php1,500/month for 9 months)
The scholarship will also include a spiritual development component that is two-fold: individual mentorship and volunteerism in the church and community. Select church leaders will mentor the student regularly over four years (download complete ATSP Manual for full details).
